The lovely Santa Casa da Misericordia (Holy House of Mercy) on the southeastern side of Largo de Senado (Senate square) was established in 1569 and is the oldest social institution in Macau. It served as a home for orphans and prostitutes in the 18th century. Today is a two-room museum [Lonely Planet]
