The Yom Kippur War was a deep shock to Israel. Egypt and Syria, on the other hand, have never admitted their defeat, and they celebrate what they call the October War every year. However, the defeat has probably driven Egypt's president, Anwar al-Sadat, to initiate a peace treaty with Israel only 4 years after initiating the Yom Kippur War. That treaty eventually led to his assassination by Islamists, ironically during a parade celebrating the so-called October victory.
