It reads: "The Battle of Culloden was fought one this Moor 16th April 1746. The Graves of the Gallant Highlanders who fought for Scotland and Prince Charlie are marked by the names of the Clans" the sad part of this battle was that the British basically slaughtered the Highlanders and the supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Not only did they kill them all but then they brought in butchers to chop off all of the appendages and parts of the scots so that they could not bury them completely. The survivors then came and tried to sort out the body parts and the only way they could identify them was their tartans. So the only recognizable body parts were separated and buried in mass graves by clan name.
