Black water from Rio Negro and brown water from Rio Solimoes flow side-by-side in Amazon for 3.7 miles before mixing. This is due to differences in temperature, speed, and water density. The Rio Negro is 72 degrees F and flows at about 1 MPH. The denser brown water is 82 degrees F and flows at about 3 MPH
