As I walked through both Versailles and the Louvre, I kept thinking to myself, how did they possibly keep all the magnificent grandeur and rich decorations and furnishings from being stolen or destroyed in from the time of the French Revolution until now? Starving angry people who have revolted do not care about past history, culture, or preservation of priceless artifacts - they want to destroy the symbols of wealth and power and to take as much of it for their personal enrichment and sense of accomplishment.

Breathtakingly beautiful, it is amazing it managed to survive the revolution in this condition.
