C'est la plus ancienne residence royale d'Angleterre occupee de maniere permanente.A l'origine une simple motte fortifiee( 1070-Guillaume le Conquerant ), le chateau fut construit pour l'essentiel par Henri II et Edouard III. Il fut remanie en 1823 par George IV.
