Bottomside's Lorcha Dock: Take-off Point of Gen. MacArthur Bound for Australia

Album Info:
Lorcha Dock - Also called MacArthur's Dock, the Lorcha dock is where locals believe General MacArthur departed Corregidor from. At present, what was left of the old dock were its ruins – old collapsed wood and concrete – aside from rusted tracks of an old railway system that once connects Lorcha dock with Malinta Tunnel, bringing personnel and war materials from the dock to the tunnel. (Taken from http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?ti tle=Corregidor) ... The next 8 photos of Lorcha Dock (& one photo of South Dock) recount the last hours of Gen. Douglas MacArthur before departing Corregidor on March 12, 1942 on four PT boats for Mindanao, where he was eventually flown to Australia.

I have a curious opinion why Gen MacArthur (US Army) opted to be picked up by US Navy PT boats in this small Army pier while there is a bigger, more secure US Navy pier on the island. It must be a big pill to take for the General to be picked up by Navy boats especially from a Navy pier! It has to be that age old rivalry between the military academies when they play college football since 1890. The tally to date is: 49 Army wins, 52 Navy wins and 7 ties. 1,579 Total Navy points (14.76 average) 1,384 Total Army points (12.93 average) Navy holds a 22 touchdown advantage over Army. All I can say to that is Beat Army, Go Navy!
