Album Info:

(DSC09065) Ramon V. Mitra (1928-2000) was a journalist, a diplomat, a senator, a member and speaker of the Philippines House of Representatives and minister of agriculture. He was a prisoner of President Ferdinand Marcos' martial-law regime of the 1970s. Ramon Mitra was born in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on February 4, 1928. He was the illegitimate child of penal colony administrator, Ramon P. Mitra, and Purification Villarosa who died while he was an infant. He was raised in poverty by a grandmother. Reared barefoot and hungry, he caught crocodiles as a youth and was shunned by his affluent father. But he worked his way through school and was a journalist before going to law school. From those humble roots, Mitra rose to be a lawyer, diplomat, senator and martial law prisoner, millionaire rancher and eventually, Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ramon V. Mitra was one of the nation's most powerful politicians. (Taken from websites of the Philippine Senate, Wikipedia & sun-sentinel.com)
