Don't get tense with me, brother. It's actually St "Mere" (Mother) Eglise - and it wes the first French town liberated by the Americans (US 82nd Airborne) in WW2. The name means simply "Church of our Sainted Mother" - as in: blessed art thou among women and the fruit of thy womb, Jesus." It's a Catholic thing; not sure if you Protestant heathen "Remember-The-Alamo" Texans would understand :-) In a way, after heavy losses in the town, the 82nd more or less turned St Mere Eglise into the 20th Century version of San Jacinto.
