The popular Point Reyes Lighthouse, built to aid safe navigation to San Francisco Bay, is located on the tip of the Point Reyes Headlands, ten miles out at sea, in a very scenic location, also excellent for whale watching in the proper season (December through April). The walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse includes a 308-step stairway -- equivalent to a 30-story building.
