Album Info:
(DSC02813) Agusan River is the widest, deepest and longest navigable river in Mindanao. Its headwaters start at the boundary of Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley provinces and pass through Agusan del Sur before entering Agusan del Norte and finally discharging into Butuan Bay. The river is the epitome of the history, culture and arts of the Butuanon and the place itself. It is also the site of the fluvial procession as Butuanons celebrate the Abayan Festival that commemorates their patroness Señora Santa Ana. It is the river and its tributaries that provide the valley with rich soil from periodic floods and its serpentine routes. The rivers had provided people with easy means of transportation for trade and commerce and encouraged settlements along its banks. The Agusan River greatly helped the booming logging industry that made Butuan the "Timber City of the South".
