The was an old Nice tramway that started in 1879 with horse-drawn trams. This was electrified in 1900 and by 1930 had 144 km (89.48 mi) of lines. The trams were replaced by trolleybuses from 1948 and the last tramway ran on 10 January 1953. A new tramway line opened in 2007 linking the northern and eastern suburbs via the city centre. Two other lines are planned; line 2 will link the east to the west from the port to the airport, extending to Cagnes-sur-Mer at a later stage, while line 3 will link to the future TGV Nice Saint-Augustin Lingostière rail station
