Album Info:

When rice plant is about knee-high tall, male members of the Ifugao tribe perform Tagtag to ensure good harvest. They beat wooden planks and chant in unison while in the rice fields - to ward off pests and capture evil vibrations by way of the red leaf adornments they wear on their bodies. After the ritual, leaves are thrown into the river, along with evil vibes caught by the leaves during the ritual.

    • Mary Ann, Your picture sequence walked me through the whole ritual as if I was there. Thanks again for putting this together so that other people like me are educated on this ritual. This is another great lesson in Ifugao Anthropology 101. The pictures and the captions made it all happen. Ding (SD)
