Album Info:

(DSC01291) The Heritage of Cebu Monument is a tableau designed and built by Filipino sculptor Eduardo Delos Santos Castrillo. It was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Cebu. The monument features some of Cebu’s important heritage sites and events. It is located at the former plaza of Barangay Parian and sits at the very same site where the St. John the Baptist Church once stood. During the 19th century, the residents of Parian, mostly Chinese-Filipinos, came in conflict with the bishop of the then diocese of Cebu. The ensuing conflict resulted to the demotion of the church’s parish status and its eventual demolition as the years went by. • What a great shot you have here, dominated by the large cross. From there, you start wandering and notice the large sails and the little crosses that dot the monument. Bathe that with sunlight and the deep blue skies and you have a stark picture that signifies the spread of Roman Catholicism in the Philippines. Hence the start of some 330 years of Spanish rule. Nice work indeed, Mary Ann!
