Album Info:
"Until the outbreak of the Civil War, the plantation produced rice steadily. But after George Dent and his 15 year old son, James, left to serve in the Confederate Army, life changed. Ophelia and her children moved to a refugee settlement near Waycross. After the war, the Dents gave up large sections of the estate to pay taxes and, by the 1880s when James Dent took over management, Hofwyl-Broadfield's wealth was gone."
