Album Info:

With the help of my good old friends from CMC, Miki Hashimoto and Francesca Moore, I was able to find my way to this spot for watching a free public-service taiko tournament at Yasukuni Shrine. The seated guy from the Czech Republic is on-deck and is about to get obliterated in his match. He tries to go right at his opponent who has at least 50kgs on him and gets picked up by his belt and carried squirming to the edge of the ring where he is dropped. Foreignors are making more and more forrays into the ranks of sumo these days, but this guy isn't quite ready for the big-time. Later that day, the Yokozuna, Asashoryu (from Mongolia) would wrestle in this very spot. I didn't stick around, because I'm horrible at sitting on the ground in a small space and I had track practice, but Francesca said the match seemed pretty orchestrated, probably because this was a public-benefit tournament and the Yokozuna was supposed to win.
