Album Info:

This mound, toward the West end of the fort, is where the remains of a building of Arthurian date was found; it was 60 feet long! This mound was the forerunner of a "Keep", the most secure place in any castle. Sit here facing Glastonbury Tor at dusk on Midsummer eve, and you may bring legend to life! The legend is that you will hear the sound of Arthur and his knights returning here from Avalon; horses hooves galloping in the sky above. Perhaps you may also see fire from the hooves. They return, exit thru' the SW gate with the horses drinking from the stream at the church of Sutton Montis, situated near this place. Another tale says that they drink from "Arthur's well" in this fort. This is a well known legend, but the church was built well after Arthur's time, the story's roots are probably earlier, rooted in in pre-history. An additional tale, is that on the night of the full-Moon, Arthur and his knights gallop around the circumference of the fort several times. Nearby residents have allegedly heard ghostly cries and the sounds of battle coming from here, too. The echoes of a distant time.

  • I am so astonished to see this name, Avalon, a subject I have been studying recently, and a name I assigned to one of my Hana images just a few days ago to honour it! It is providential and mysterious how things happen. The image is in my Darkly, deeply, beautifully blue album taken on Maui. My titles I assign to my images are like secret messages, codes to those perceptive enough to realise...
