Amber was the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs for over 700 years. The fort was established in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh. Successive rulers added to the majestic structure. Amber fort is built of white and red sandstone. While the fort looks rugged and imposing from outside, the interiors of the palace are covered with frescoes, murals and paintings depicting various scenes from daily life. Other walls are covered with intricate carvings, mosaic, and delicate mirror work.
