Album Info:
The Thuparama is a gedige or a vaulted shrine which supposedly reached its perfection in Polonnaruwa. It is said to belong to King Vijayabahu's time (1055-1110), and is the oldest of the image houses. There is a strong influence of Dravidian architecture. Although it is quite dark within, one can make out several Buddha images seated in the chamber. The limestone sculpture of the images within the shrine dates to about the 7th century CE.

I remember clearly the natural sounds there; We were so impressed by the jungle noise when arriving there at dusk; Sure I would not have entered in the dark room by fear to encounter a king cobra!
