Album Info:

During World War II, the ancient cathedral in Coventry, England was almost completely destroyed during a particularly infamous night of German bombing. Not long afterwards, someone noticed two burnt, wooden crossmembers of the ancient roof trusses among the ruins and, moved by the image of a cross, propped it up behind the remains of the cathedral's main altar. The words "Father Forgive" were written across the front of the altar. The phrase, "Father Forgive" along with three medieval roofing nails in a cross configuration came to represent Coventry and the horrors visited upon the civilian populations by the war. This particular Coventry Cross was a gift to Washington National Cathedral from Coventry Cathedral and is displayed in the Washington cathedral's Mellon Bay.
