Album Info:

(DSC01335) Archeological excavations conducted within areas surrounding the fort have revealed evidences on the existence of a pre-colonial settlement in the area dating as far back as 1000 AD. Asiatic trade pottery such as monochrome wares, blue-and-white porcelain wares, polychrome wares, green-glazed wares, white wares, and other wares show a settlement engaged in early trade with other Asian countries. During the early 1900s, the fort became a part of Warwick Barracks, a military garrison originally established in March 1899 by American military authorities. With the abandonment of Warwick Barracks on 26 November 1917, the Municipality of Cebu requested that the Fort San Pedro be turned over to the city for park purposes. In succeeding years, the fort has served as the site for the clubhouse of the Cebu Garden Club, the Cebu City Zoo in 1957 and government offices from 1978 to 1993. As of the present, it has been converted into a National Shrine and is now managed by the City of Cebu.
