Album Info:
A late afternoon walk in the Holy Cross neighborhood. This butterscotch-colored house was recently extensively cleaned, renovated, and expanded in a project featured on public television's "This Old House" series. (It began as a simple wooden, one-story "shotgun" house.) Decorative "gingerbread" wooden pieces below the porch roof were characteristic of later-19th-to-early-twentieth century houses; they are prized in modern renovations, as well. While the exterior wall surface looks like wood, it is actually made of a type of concrete, to be more weatherproof and environmentally sustainable. Part of the recently planted garden can be seen.
