From the street to the courtyards

Album Info:

I have read that some people in Me'a She'arim would agree to be photographed if asked to, but how could I tell who they are? I am not versed in the various factions and their slightly different dress codes. I only dared to ask one shopkeeper. He refused, and politely, I should say. I asked him why people in the neighborhood are unwilling to be photographed. He mumbled something and finally said: "Many righteous people did not want to be photographed". That was the only conversation I had with a person from Me'a She'arim, if indeed that shopkeeper was a local. Generally I had the impression that I better avoid even eye contact with people, especially men.
