Album Info:
The USS Port Royal, a cruiser homeported in Pearl Harbor, ran aground on Thursday evening, February 6th, while conducting small boat operations off Honolulu International Airport’s reef runway. The ship was stranded on the reef in 17 to 22 feet of water while conducting small boat operations. Several attempts to free the vessel have failed. While there were no reported injuries, the ship, with a compliment of approximately 360 sailors who remain on board, is currently without electricity or air conditioning. Extreme low tides have hampered rescue operations. This photograph was taken from the western end of Sand Island. Canon 30D with Canon EF 75-300 mm lens. 02/06/09@12:21:12 pm HST. TV 1/500 AV 8.0 ISO 100
