Album Info:
(DSC08092) Cathedral of Tuguegarao: Dominican priests first came to Cagayan Valley and established its mission in Tuguegarao on May 9, 1604. Its first vicar was Fr Tomas Villa, O.P. The church and its bell tower were constructed under the supervision of Fr. Antonio Lobato in 1761 to 1767 with the help from its parishioners. The church is the biggest in Cagayan province. Pope Pius X established the first diocese in April 10, 1910, and installed Msgr Mauricio P. Foley as its first bishop on Dec. 6, 1911. In 1945 after it was heavily damaged during WWII, the church was rebuilt by Bishop Constance Jurgens. Later on the damaged bell tower and bells were also restored with the help of its parishioners and the Knights of Colombus.
