Beginning in 1870, the Light House Board urged the construction of a lighthouse here at Petite Pointe au Sable, because (1) the long stretch of coast line that was unlighted, (2) the prominence of the point, and (3) the increased volume of shipping in the area. (dsc_4135ncs)
