The stark looking, somber construction has a charm of its own. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian is classified into three divisions – Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Da Ci'en Temple and North Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda originally served as the storehouse of Buddhist products taken from India by the Emperor Xuanzang. Such commodities include figures of Buddha, Buddha relics and different types of sutras. At present, the pagoda rises up to a stupendous height of 64.5 meters comprising of seven stories. The elegant exterior complements the lavish interiors. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is built of brick and is quite firm and solid. You can climb up the stairs to reach the stories featuring arch-shaped doors. From here you will enjoy spectacular views of the Xian city. Exquisite statues of Buddha are carved on the walls. The charming Da Ci'en Temple was built in the honor of the expired Empress. With its splendor and glory the temple excels all other structures. In front of it you will notice the marvelous statue of the Emperor Xuanzang. In order to reach the temple entrance, you will have to cross a small bridge. You will certainly appreciate the figures of the lions guarding the temple. Within this temple are housed the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. It features the Hall of Mahavira, Sermon Hall and Hall of Xuanzang Sanzang. Each of these halls is richly decorated with excellent artworks. The North Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda lies to the north of Da Ci'en Temple. It is the biggest fountain square in Asia and features the longest light-belt in the world. Beautiful gardens and the paths leading to them combine to add more grace to the temple. In the night, with the whole place illuminated, it looks more stunning and gorgeous.
