Album Info:
"The plantation plain-style house, built in the 1850s, is typical of many plantation houses of that era. The windows were modified to enhance circulation and the exterior was renovated in the late 1930s. The interior retains furnishings owned by the Dent family. The property gives a view of family life of the rice coast planters. After late spring, the planters and their families usually left the tidal low country and did not return until the first frost when the danger of the swamp miasma disease had passed. The Troups and other planter families retreated to their second homes, leaving their slaves and an overseer to work the crop."
