We owe our mountain high(way) experience to Eusebius Halsema.

Album Info:
Origin of Halsema Highway ~~~ Originally from Ohio, USA, Eusebius Halsema was the mayor of Baguio City from 1920 to 1937, and lived & stayed in the Philippines with his wife from 1908 until 1945 when he was killed during the bombing of Baguio in WWII. Under Halsema's direction, Baguio was gradually transformed from a sleepy village of 5,000 people connected to the lowlands only by one-way roads to a prosperous city of 25,000 with paved roads and an air link. He built the Mountain Trail (now known as Halsema Highway) to Bontoc with the cooperation of the people along its route, which was opened in 1930. He is buried with his wife in the Baguio cemetery.
