Album Info:
(DSC02144) The "Dance of Labi" is a healing ritual. "Labi" means superior. That is, it is a spirit who is "more powerful" than a particular sickness and can, therefore, cure it. The healing ritual is done in a richly decorated place, usually imitating a wedding celebration. The ritual performers - a male and a female - dance to the sound of the "kulintang" (native xylophone made up of small gongs) and invite the spirits to possess them. The dancers show diverse movements depending on the spirits that have possesed them. (Taken from an adjacent signage)
