Markustor, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany

Album Info:
The old part of Rothenburg is an incredibly beautiful medieval town. It is speculated that it derived the name from the red tiles of the roofs. The history of the town dates back to 970 CE; it was brought under the rule of the Hohenstaufen dynasty in 1172. It became a free Imperial city in 1274. In 1802 it became part of Bavaria.

I know Rotherburg ob der Tauber well. This photo truly represents the authentic medieval atmosphere of the place.

It looks to me that you got up very early in the morning when the light is at its best and not too many people are crowding the street.

In looking further into the abbreviation CE, I found that it also means Christian Era. This is so interesting as I am only used to AD.

Once again I have learned something from your description.......I did not know what CE meant and looked it up on an abbreviation site: CE = Common Era = AD.
