The Misty Fjord National Monument near Ketchikan, Alaska
suresh_krishna (Premium member) > albums > Alaska - Encounter with Grandeur of...
Album Info:
This area is called "The Yosemite of the North" for its similar geology. Light-colored granite, about 50 to 70 million years old, has been sculpted by glaciers that gouged deep U-shaped troughs throughout the area. Many of the glacial valleys are filled with sea water and are called "canals", but they are not man-made in any way. The walls of these valleys are near vertical and often rise 2,000 feet (600m) above sea level, and drop 1,000 feet (300 m) below it.

So tranquil. Great colors and contrast, perfect composition. Would have been perfect for the Vanishing Point-CC, too!

I don't know if it's just me, but looking at the water makes me really thirsty. Great shot.

Beautiful, peaceful place. I think I can hear the gently lapping waves and yes, I feel a soft breeze on my face as I look at the mountains in the distance. This is what photography is all about, it transports us to another place, thank you for the wonderful feelings.

You had also a clear weather; We made the whole trip in 1997 after seeing an impressive reportage at the TV where the high cliffs summits of Misty Fjords were disappearing in turbulent clouds giving the impression that they were of infinite highness! We had also clear weather and the impression was stunning but not as the TV reportage!
