Album Info:
In the nineteenth century, when the Victorians began leaving their homes to see interesting sites elsewhere in England (the birth of English tourism), the walls of York began attracting people, prompting additions to widen them (so people could walk on them). This extra width was supported by arches, and the alcoves thus created would store the stained glass windows of York Minster during WWII, thereby saving them from harm.
