Kanlaon Volcano is a haven for ecological enthusiasts - the Mambukal Resort. For just PhP 10.00, a jeepney will take you to the barangay (village) of Minoyan in the town of Murcia. Mambukal Resort, a government-owned piece of forest land, rises 1,200 feet above sea level. It was developed by a Japanese architect named Ishiwata in 1927 as a bath house and a picnic garden. Today, the over 23.6 hectares vast of land on the slopes of Mambukal serve as a cool tourist destination with scenic features. It is situated at an elevation of 900 m. on the northwest slopes of Mt. Kanlaon, 31 kms. east of Bacolod City. It is known for its hot therapeutic sulfur springs since early Spanish times. Mountain trails here lead through lush forests. It also has seven waterfalls, three of them easily reached by footpaths. The resort is a gateway to Mt. Kanlaon National Park.
