In perpetual gratitude and memory of Fr. Agustin De San Pedro, ORSA (Order of Recollects of Saint Augustine). Born in Braganza Portugal in the year 1600. Joined the Augustine Recollect missionaries in Mindanao. Became known as "Padre Capitan". He was sent to Romblon in 1635 by his superior. Because of the frequent attacks of the moro pirates of this town he trained the natives of this island to fight and to defend themselves against the moro invaders. He died in Romblon, Romblon in 1653. His mortal remains are reverently laid inside the vault outside the bell tower. Fr. Agustin De San Pedro, was an intrepid evangelizer and builder. He began the construction of 1. The Romblon Parish church and belfry in 1640. 2. The two fortresses Fort Santiago and fort San Andres in 1644. 3. Banton church and convent and surrounding thick walls. 4. The fortress on the hills of Banton overlooking the wide seas in 1640-1650.
