Album Info:
Beneath the thick layer of ice in Antarctica lies bedrock that makes the continent. The coverage of ice is so extensive that it occupies 99% of the continent. Only the coastal regions are sometimes free of ice. Antarctic rocks span a period greater than 3 billion years. In geography and history of the world, the Antarctic is like no other land: it is the coldest, highest, driest and most inhospitable continent on earth. It was the last region to be incorporated in geographical studies because it offered the greatest resistance to man's effort to investigate. Antarctica covers almost one-tenth of earth's surface. Antarctica's thick ice on the average is more than a mile deep and hides the real dimension of the continent which is estimated to be 14 million sq.km (5.4 million sq. miles), following in size Asia, America and Africa. In winter when the sea freezes, the area doubles in size, and is then greater than Europe and America combined. Antarctica has in its frozen ice an estimated 72% of earth's fresh water reserve. Antarctica is like no other continent on earth's surface; it is just magnificent poetry. Visiting Antarctica is once in a lifetime experience.

Hello, Suresh, this is a wonderful image, quite spectacular, the blue tone of ice is stunning and beautiful. It must be a very cold weather, but fantastic blue color of the sea, sky and ice give a summer impression! This is absolutely breathtaking!
