The Cours Le Royer dates from 1860. The building complex replaced Hotel Dieu, the town's first hospital, founded by Jeanne Mance who arrived with Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve in 1642. She was the only nurse till 1659, when she brought the Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph to New France.
