Tellaro, a cliff overlooking the sea, is a picturesque maritime village situated at the most eastward point of the Golfo dei Poeti. A famous legend tells the story of a giant octopus that came out of the waters and rang the church bells to give the alarm and save the population during one of the many pirates' attacks. In ancient times, the life of the village mainly took place in the square that faces the sea but even nowadays it is still surrounded by colourful boats and houses that recall a half-circle form. Tellaro is crossed by very narrow paths. In this part of the village, the houses, the arches and arcades almost touch each other and when the sea is rough the sound and echoes of the waves that splash on the rocks may be heard.
