Album Info:

Mankind has definitely made a lasting impression on the Oahu coastline. This is one of the few places in Hawai'i where the beach front property is valued under one million dollars. A new resort complex, with a luxury yacht harbor, is in the works for the coastline just around the point. It will have a profound impact on property taxes and this neighborhood will see significant changes as a result. Miles of cane fields and kiawe that once surrounded Ewa Beach have already been replaced by tract housing and townhouses with little infrastructure. Still... hundreds of Hawaiians live on the beach and in our parks because of a lack of affordable housing. They've paved paradise and put up a parking lot!

    • I am so very sorry ... I have been reading a trilogy, of sorts, about this very sort of thing and how it has impacted the generations of Hawaiians ... it is disgusting ... and when is it going to stop? Paradise can only be taken so far and then it becomes Hell. And why is it that the native peoples are of less concern that those who move to Hawaii - something terribly wrong with this ... LHL

    • I live not too far from the North Carolina coast and the same is also a problem there. Then they raise the insurance rates so high people can't afford them due to hurricane damage... a no win situation in the battle of man and nature. Judy of North Carolina

    • I can understand the draw of the wealthy to Hawaii, but it is so sad to drive around Oahu and most of the other islands and find the homeless barely suriving, living in tents on beaches and in parks while many more live in such opulence. I am in no way a socialist, but we the people, not the goverment, need to more out of our own means to help those who can not afford to live in their own yard. Randy

    • It is so discouraging to see a beautiful landscape cluttered with buildings. It seems that homelessness is becoming prevalent in many countries now.

    • Find paradise, overcrowd it. The ultimate man vs. nature. Great entry.
