Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier, Breidamerkurjokull glacier, and large icebergs from the glacier float on the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it up to 160 meters deep. The glacier Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is an outlet of the Vatnajökull glacier.
