  • In 1989-91 I was a Peace Corps volunteer and lived and worked with the Hagahai people. I saw these amazing hats being made. These bright green beetles were hunted down and the wings were taken off and the attached to strips of bamboo. Each strip has about 20 beetle backs. And this hat is probably made up of 100 bamboo strips. Amazing! These photos really took me back to those wonderful days living and learning from the wonderful people! Thanks for posting them!

  • Dear author, I am looking for a suitable image for a book cover for Pacific Linguistics at The Australian National University, specifically part of the splendid headdress in this photo. Would you be interested in giving us permission for a possible book cover? Kind regards, Julie Manley, Publications Manager, Pacific Linguistics (julie.manley@anu.edu.au)
