This Catholic-Assumptionist church is built in the presumed location of the house of Caiaphas, who was the high Jewish priest in the time of Jesus. According to the New Testament, Jesus was brought there where the Sanhedrin court decided to hand him over to the Roman authorities. Peter, Jesus' senior Disciple, who was at the scene, denied knowing him 3 times. The church commemorates Peter's triple rejection of Jesus and his subsequent remorse.
