Album Info:
DSC03378) ..... Today, Teachers’ Camp continues as an important rest and recreation destination for Filipino educators. The camp bonfires and dances may be gone, but its role as host for various conferences, seminars and meets continues. There is no disputing on the huge role Teachers’ Camp played in the history of the Filipino nation. There are perhaps two significant things to note. First, Teachers’ Camp catered to the physical, social & intellectual well-being of American educators while in their long stay in the Philippines. It provided much needed rest & rejuvenation to American educators when they broke off from their ardous job of laying down the foundations for the modern education system in the country during the Commonwealth period (early 1900s). Without them, education in the country would have taken a very different route. Second, Teachers Camp became the hub from where policies and regulations affecting teachers and students in the entire country were introduced and discussed. Much of what a teacher learned from Baguio Teachers' Camp eventually applied to him/her and to his/her students. From the learnings teachers took with them from the Camp, an entire nation was educated and shaped.
