Bridge House was built in the 16th Century in what was then an apple orchard, and built originally it is believed as a summerhouse and apple store for Ambleside Hall (now demolished). Later it was used as a cottage, a family with six children is believed to have lived there at one time in its two rooms. It was also a weaver’s and a gift shop. Today it acts as an information centre for the National Trust,
