Album Info:

(DSC00469) Hablon: This is a handwoven textile made usually from cotton, abaca, or pineapple fibers. But nowadays, cotton is the more popular version. Hablon hails from the towns of Iloilo. But hablon weaving of today can be found mostly in the municipality of Miag-ao. During the early Spanish colonial days, women would wear hablon as "patadyong", or wrap around skirt. Sometimes it is also used as a hammock where babies sleep during the day. But due to the mass production of cheaper textiles, hablon almost went into extinction. Fortunately, several concerned private individuals, companies as well as government agencies revived the hablon weaving industry. From time to time local Ilonggo designers would stage fashion shows that feature hablon as its main product.
