Hohenschwangau castle, Bavaria, Germany

Album Info:
The Ammergebirge (Ammer mountains), which separate Bavaria from Tirol, not quite 100 km from Munich, is the frontier of the Alpine mountains. The Schwangau knights built many castles to guard the frontier. Though the castle Schwangau was in ruins, it was rebuilt between 1832 -1836 by Maximillian II, father of Ludwig II, in Gothic and Tudor style and named Hohenschwangau. Considering the time at which it was built, the castle contains many modern amenities such as air heating. Young Ludwig II spent his childhood summers here.

I had no idea Merike knows German. The sentence she wrote is perfect and so is this photo. I almost had forgotten the word "gluecklicherweise" !!

Looks to be in great shape. Is it used as anything other than a tourist attraction. Gorgeous shot. I can imagine being there, thanks to your photos.
