My final destination of the August 2003 US trip was the American federal capital – Washington DC. Once again, Washington DC was another highlight of my trip. The mall area is lined with imposing neo-classical buildings, making it a showcase of the American government. One of the people at the hostel compared Washington DC to the new Rome. I certainly could see the parallels! There are many charming historic neighbourhoods like Dupont Circle and Georgetown. The efficient metro makes it easy to get around the city. Equally efficient is the ticket system for many star attractions like the Washington Monument and the American Capitol. Overall another great experience except the very high humidity and the heat wave close to 99 degrees Fahrenheit!
