Album Info:

Japanese torpedo planes came in at tree top level over Pearl City Penninsula (across the harbor in this photograph) during the first wave attack on December 7, 1941. USS Utah quickly sank, with little or no warning to her sleeping crew on board, from three direct torpedo hits launched during those first few critical minutes; thus blocking the west channel. She was subsequently towed to her present location to clear the channel for shipping in the first days of America's entrance into World War Two. The Utah Memorial is located on Ford Island and is not accessable to the general public without a military escort.
