At the thought of Peru the first thing that comes to one's mind is Inca and Machu Picchu. However, according to historians, the Inca empire was a late comer among the many pre-Columbian civilizations such as the Chavin, Moche, Nazca and Wari. The older, preceding tribes spanned approximately a period from 1000 B.C to 1000 A.D. Inca empire, for all its glory, lasted less than a century from 1438 to 1532 A.D. Before that they were just another tribe in the valley of Cuzco indulging in inter-tribal skirmishes with other tribes in the area. The turning point in the Inca history came in 1438, when the Chakan tribe invaded the Incas. The Chakans were defeated by the then Inca king Pachacuti. Flushed with the victory, the Incas expanded the empire to the north and to the south until it extended from the southern Colombia to central Chile. (contd in the next slide)

I sure never knew they only endured 100 years or less ... I am wondering if the Wari .... are the same as the Waorani ... I have a couple books about that tribe which were very hostil, even in he 1950's ...
