While the upper portion of the fountain was built from an ancient olive oil jar Hemingway acquired in Cuba, the base is actually a urinal Hemingway claimed from Sloppy Joe's Bar! According to legend, he said, ''I've washed enough water down that drain, and I'd at least like to get something out of it.''
